REBECCA RAUBACHER
ABOUT THE ARTIST
As a child, I believed that if I could draw something, I could somehow own it. Now, I feel like the work owns me. The art of drawing has reached in and pulled this work, like a secret from my core, and then delivered it to me, allowing others viewing it to bring their own stories.

GALLERY
A vast number of drawings spanning the artist’s forty two-year career are included on this site. These are, for the most part, very quickly done gestural drawings. Their subjects include dancers, family and friends, observations while traveling, and especially animals. There are almost no landscapes, and any seascapes tend to connect in some way to fishing. A fluidity of line is one of the hallmarks of Raubacher’s paintings and drawings. She has created her own line throughout her career which viewers can follow via this web-based retrospective.

- From her very first drawing of a horse to the sketchbooks and journals she has kept over the length and breadth of her career, Raubacher reveals herself to be a keen observer of both animal and human nature.
